Who doesn’t love a trip down memory lane? For Laura Smith, the Katy Depot in Denison, TX will always hold a special place in her heart. In 1992, she walked through its historic doors as a bride, ready to start a new chapter in life. Over 30 years later, she returned with her sisters—this time to reminisce, reconnect, and see the beautifully restored landmark that once set the stage for her wedding day.

“I got married at The Katy Depot in 1992, and even though I moved away from Texas right after the wedding, Denison has always felt like our ‘home,’” Laura recalls. “My parents lived east of town, so we drove past The Depot every day for many years. With six kids in the family, we gathered there whenever we could.”

Sadly, Laura’s parents passed in 2015, and visits to Denison became less frequent. But this April, she and her sisters decided it was time for a girls’ getaway—and where better to stay than the very place her wedding memories began?

“Staying at The Katy Depot and seeing its beautiful restoration felt almost surreal,” Laura says. “The charming shops and restaurants made the trip even more unforgettable, and we truly felt at home—minus the Main Street Serpentine, of course!”

Laura shared treasured photos from 1992—her sisters helping her prepare in what may be the same room that’s now part of the Depot’s Airbnb loft, her and her groom posing beneath the venue’s iconic windows, and even a moment by the train tracks with the MKT cars in the background.

Fast forward to 2025, and she and her sisters posed once again—this time outside the grand arched entrance, the Katy Depot standing tall as ever, ready to welcome a new generation of memories.

“I look forward to returning to Denison and The Depot many more times now that I’m in Rockwall,” Laura says.

From hosting elegant weddings to creating the perfect weekend getaway, the Katy Depot remains a place where history, beauty, and heartfelt connections meet. And as Laura’s story shows—some places never stop feeling like home.
